Dear Friend,
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF YOUR MARRIAGE?
A husband once said to me during a counseling session,
“I still love my wife… but I don’t understand why our marriage feels empty.”
That statement is more common than many people admit.
Because the truth is this:
Many marriages are built on love, but not on purpose.
And when purpose is missing, even genuine love can lose direction.
The Missing Link: PURPOSE
Marriage was never designed to survive on emotions alone.
Feelings rise and fall. Romance comes and goes.
But purpose gives marriage stability, direction, and meaning.
Without purpose:
• Little issues become big problems
• Conflict feels like a threat instead of growth
• Couples begin to feel like strangers over time
But when purpose is clear:
• You understand why you are together
• You endure difficult seasons with meaning
• You build intentionally, not accidentally
A Biblical Perspective
In Genesis 2:18, God said:
“It is not good that man should be alone…”
Marriage was created to:
• Provide companionship
• Fulfill divine assignment
• Reflect God’s nature and order
Your marriage is not just about happiness, it is about purpose and impact.
A QUESTION WORTH ASKING
Let me ask you something very important:
Why are you and your spouse married, beyond love?
• Is it just to live together?
• Raise children?
• Or is there a deeper assignment?
Until that question is answered, many couples drift through marriage instead of building it.
THIS WEEK’S ASSIGNMENT
Take time (preferably together) to answer this:
“What is the purpose of our marriage?”
Then write a simple statement like:
“Our marriage exists to… (e.g., support each other, raise godly children, serve God, impact others, build a peaceful home, etc.)”
Keep it simple. Keep it sincere.
CLOSING CHARGE
Marriage works best when it is intentional, not accidental.
Don’t just be in marriage.
Build your marriage, with purpose.
Because when purpose is clear,
even difficult seasons become meaningful journeys.
With love and commitment to Strengthening Homes.
