QUESTION AND ANSWERS.

QUESTION.
Loneliness resulting from divorce is devastating, but what about loneliness within marriage? When you are together as husband and wife yet communication is absent, which one is worse?

ANSWER.
Loneliness, both within and outside of marriage, is painful. However, the question is, what causes loneliness within marriage? Often, it’s due to pride and inability to forgive- when there’s an issue, and neither partner wants to be the first to make amends. As a child of God, if you are truly broken, there should be no reason to harbor malice in your marriage. In Ephesians 4:26, God says:

“Be angry, and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your wrath.”

This means that, with the right mindset, you and your spouse can address loneliness within marriage.

On the other hand, loneliness after divorce is different. It stems from the void created when you no longer have your partner by your side. It’s a profound emptiness that can’t be easily filled. This is one reason why I often say that divorce is costly.

Loneliness within marriage is usually temporary and can be worked through, but the loneliness after divorce is far worse, as you may find yourself unable to do anything about it, since your partner is no longer available to reach out to.
