MARRIAGE STILL WORKS DEVOTIONAL.
Day 18: MARRIAGE STILL WORKS…WHEN APPRECIATION IS EXPRESSED.
Key Scripture:
“In every thing give thanks…” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
(Appreciation strengthens emotional connection.)
DEVOTIONAL INSIGHT.
Appreciation is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to strengthen a marriage.
Many couples are doing their best, making efforts, and contributing to the relationship in meaningful ways. Yet, when those efforts go unnoticed or unacknowledged, it can lead to discouragement.
Over time, what is not appreciated is often taken for granted.
When appreciation is absent:
• Motivation decreases
• Emotional connection weakens
• Resentment may begin to build
But when appreciation is expressed:
• Effort is encouraged
• Love is reinforced
• Joy is restored
Appreciation does not require grand gestures. It is often found in simple, sincere expressions:
• “Thank you for what you did”
• “I appreciate your effort”
• “I value you”
It also involves being intentional about noticing both big and small contributions.
A culture of appreciation changes the atmosphere of a home. It shifts focus from what is lacking to what is present and working.
When people feel valued, they naturally become more willing to give more of themselves to the relationship.
REAL LIFE REFLECTION.
A wife handled many responsibilities at home but rarely received acknowledgment. Over time, she began to feel unappreciated and less motivated.
Her husband eventually noticed the change and decided to be more intentional. He began to express appreciation regularly, even for small things.
The impact was immediate. The wife felt valued again, and her attitude changed.
What made the difference was not an increase in effort, but an increase in appreciation.
ACTION POINT (Love in Practice)
Today:
• Express genuine appreciation for at least two things your spouse does
Say it, don’t assume they know.
TALK ABOUT IT TOGETHER.
How can we build a culture of appreciation in our marriage?
PRAYER.
Father, help us to cultivate a heart of gratitude. Teach us to appreciate each other consistently and sincerely. Let our home be filled with encouragement and joy, in Jesus’ name.
CLOSING TRUTH.
Marriage still works…when appreciation is consistently expressed.
