ABIDING GRACE DEVOTIONALS

TARRYING IN GOD’S PRESENCE.

ABIDING GRACE DEVOTIONALS.
Dr. Mike Oluniyi.

“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luk.24:49)

After the resurrection of Jesus, He told His disciples to tarry in the city of Jerusalem until they would be clothed with power from on high. Indeed, they tarried in the city of Jerusalem until the Holy Spirit descended on them:

Acts 2:3-4
‘And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance’

The issue of tarrying in the presence of God is so much important that every serious spiritual endeavor should be preceded by tarrying. When Jesus was about to commence His ministry, He tarried in Gods presence for forty days and forty nights (Matt.4:2). When His earthly ministry was about to be concluded, He enjoined the disciples to tarry with Him (Matt,36:38). Apart from numerous other examples of the importance of tarrying, we also read in Habakkuk 2:1-3, that to receive vision from God requires tarrying.

Tarrying means waiting in a place for God’s will and direction, It can involve various spiritual practices such as fasting, prayer, worship, reading the scriptures, and simply being quiet and attentive to God’s presence. Tarrying in God’s presence gives you access to immense spiritual benefits towards guidance, protection, spiritual warfare and receiving from God. In other words, your relevance in the faith is highly dependent on your practice of tarrying in God’s presence.

May you receive the wisdom and the discipline to tarry in God’s presence whenever you need it in life in Jesus name.

FAMILY FOCUS.
As couples, there is need to practice tarrying in the presence of God for all the identified purposes above, as well as training your children in the practice of spiritual warfare. When your child did not see your dependence on God through tarrying, there may be the tendency to seek other gods when they leave home.
